Medford Vet Clinic

Dental Care

Dental care is an important aspect to any horse's preventative health plan. At the Medford Veterinary Clinic, we recommend starting with yearly dental exams. Poorly maintained teeth can lead to:

* Weight loss
* Sinus/respiratory infections
* Bit irritation

A dental exam includes an oral exam, checking the inside of the horse's mouth while under sedation, as well as looking at the outside of the face/jaw for any conformational changes or abnormal discharge.

Common abnormal findings include:

* Sharp points, hooks, or waves
* Oral ulcers/erosion
* Missing teeth
* Fractured teeth

Depending on their findings, our veterinarians may recommend that your horse be floated. Floating refers to the rasping down of sharp points as well as balancing the horse's mouth. Our veterinarians use a power float that provides a safe, gentle, precise, and fast procedure. Call today to schedule your horses' dental exam and float.
